The Art of Music Classification

There’s a huge amount of music on any given streaming service but only a fraction is actively curated and streamed. It’s easier to spot when you delve into the more niche genres like Classical or Jazz or the sub categories of electronic music. The well-known repertoires of Mozart, Louis Armstrong or Frank Sinatra, will appear in curated playlists and recommendations often, yet you will be hard pressed to find a Hank Mobley or a Freddie Redd. The songs are there, but they don’t show up in recommendation, because they aren’t properly classified or curated.The beauty of digital is that we have access to everything.

The beauty of music streaming should be that we can discover an infinite amount of great music we will love and that it always gets played at the right time.
